Surgeon Terms & Conditions

These terms govern the rental and use of theatre and clinic facilities at Deansgate Hospital and apply to all bookings made under the Hospital's Schedule of Fees.

1Theatre Session Times

  1. 1.1
    A full-day operating theatre session commences at 07:00 and concludes at 17:00. A half-day session runs 07:00–12:00 or 12:00–17:00, unless otherwise agreed in writing. Session timings are set out in Schedule 1 of the Fee Schedule.

2Theatre Rental

  1. 2.1
    The Consultant Surgeon rents the operating theatre facilities at Deansgate Hospital ("the Hospital") for the purpose of performing surgical procedures on the Consultant's private patients.
  2. 2.2
    The agreed Theatre Fee includes:
    • Use of the operating theatre suite
    • Standard theatre equipment customarily required for the scheduled procedure
    • Standard medications routinely stocked for peri-operative care
    • Standard surgical consumables ordinarily used in surgical procedures
    • The Hospital's core theatre team: scrub nurse(s), theatre runner, an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) and a recovery nurse
    • For local-anaesthetic and minor-operations cases: one scrub nurse
  3. 2.3
    All applicable fees are detailed in Schedule 1 of the Fee Schedule.

3Specialist Consumables & Equipment

  1. 3.1
    Any implants, garments, bespoke instruments, non-standard medications, insertion funnels, mesh, sutures or specialist consumables not routinely stocked by the Hospital must be requested in advance and detailed on the booking form.
  2. 3.2
    A Special Requirements Form must be completed for each case requiring such items and submitted at the time of theatre booking.
  3. 3.3
    On receipt of the completed form, the Hospital will confirm availability and provide a quotation for the requested items within forty-eight (48) hours.
  4. 3.4
    No specialist items will be ordered or reserved until written acceptance of the quoted costs has been received.
  5. 3.5
    Consultants may provide their own consumables, subject to prior written approval and provided they meet the required quality standards.

4Excluded Fees

  1. 4.1
    The following are not included in the Theatre Fee and are charged separately where applicable:
    • Anaesthetist fees
    • Surgical assistant fees
    • Implants and prostheses
    • Histology and laboratory investigations
    • Value Added Tax — 20% VAT applies to all cosmetic procedures and is additional to the fees quoted
  2. 4.2
    The Hospital can arrange or facilitate anaesthetist and Surgical First Assistant (SFA) services on request. Fees for such services are agreed and paid directly between the Consultant and the practitioner; the Hospital is not responsible for such payment.
  3. 4.3
    Prosthesis and implant charges are available on request and are billed in addition to theatre rates.

5Pre-operative & Post-operative Services

  1. 5.1
    Fees for all pre-operative and post-operative tests and services are detailed in Schedule 1.
  2. 5.2
    Where a required test, investigation or service is not listed in Schedule 1, a quotation will be provided on request.
  3. 5.3
    MRSA screening, blood tests, histology and wound swabs taken outside the scope of this Agreement are billed at the Hospital's standard rates as set out in Schedule 1.

6Additional Staffing

  1. 6.1
    Any additional clinical or non-clinical staff requested beyond the core theatre team are subject to additional charges.
  2. 6.2
    Such charges are based on the Hospital's prevailing rates and quoted in writing prior to confirmation.

7Payment Terms

  1. 7.1
    All payments must be made by bank transfer.
  2. 7.2
    Full payment of estimated theatre fees and any agreed additional services must be received no later than two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled procedure date.
  3. 7.3
    Failure to receive cleared funds within this timeframe may result in cancellation of the booking at the Hospital's discretion and without liability to the Hospital.

8Additional & Supplementary Charges

  1. 8.1
    The Hospital reserves the right to issue a supplementary invoice where procedures:
    • exceed the scheduled theatre time
    • require additional staffing
    • require additional consumables, equipment or medications
    • require further tests, including histology or blood investigations
    • result in unanticipated services
  2. 8.2
    Any supplementary invoice is payable within seven (7) days of the invoice date unless otherwise agreed in writing.

9Combined Procedures

  1. 9.1
    Where more than one procedure is performed in a single session, the primary procedure is charged at one hundred percent (100%) of the applicable facility fee.
  2. 9.2
    Each subsequent procedure performed in the same session is charged at fifty percent (50%) of its applicable facility fee.

10Theatre Allocation & Overruns

  1. 10.1
    The Hospital allocates a theatre slot based on the estimated duration of the procedures, as agreed in advance with the Consultant.
  2. 10.2
    Where procedures exceed the allocated theatre time, overruns are charged at £500 per 30 minutes in accordance with Schedule 1.
  3. 10.3
    The Hospital reserves the right to review theatre fees for future lists where consistent overruns occur. Any fee changes will be communicated in writing and agreed by both parties.

11Emergency Return to Theatre

  1. 11.1
    Any return to theatre within twenty-four (24) hours of the original procedure is included within the original Theatre Fee.
  2. 11.2
    Any return to theatre after twenty-four (24) hours is chargeable at the full applicable rate.
  3. 11.3
    Where the return procedure exceeds the duration or complexity of the original operation, the Hospital reserves the right to apply an increased fee commensurate with the additional time, resources and clinical requirements.
  4. 11.4
    The Consultant Surgeon remains responsible for ensuring the immediate clinical needs of the patient are appropriately addressed at all times.

12Theatre Booking Process

  1. 12.1
    All cases must be booked through the Bookings Team using the official booking form.
  2. 12.2
    Bookings must be submitted by email to bookings@deansgatehospital.com.

13Theatre Documentation

  1. 13.1
    All theatre documentation must be submitted to the Bookings Team at least two (2) weeks prior to patient admission.
  2. 13.2
    The Hospital reserves the right to charge a £100 administrative fee where documentation is submitted late.

14Practising Privileges

  1. 14.1
    All Consultants and Anaesthetists must hold valid practising privileges at Deansgate Hospital prior to consulting with or treating patients at the facility.

15Infection Control

  1. 15.1
    Where MRSA screening is indicated, all patients scheduled for surgery must have MRSA screening results available at least five (5) working days prior to admission.
  2. 15.2
    In urgent cases, this timeframe may be reduced at the discretion of Senior Management.

16Outpatient Appointments

  1. 16.1
    All outpatient appointments must be confirmed in writing at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance by email to the Bookings Team.
  2. 16.2
    Consultants who cancel without at least 24 hours' notice will incur the full charge.
  3. 16.3
    It is the responsibility of the Consultant to ensure patients attend their scheduled appointments.

17Patient Preparation

  1. 17.1
    The Consultant is responsible for ensuring patients follow all pre-operative preparation instructions provided by the Hospital.
  2. 17.2
    Where patients fail to comply with preparation requirements, the Hospital reserves the right to charge the full hospital fee and any associated costs.
  3. 17.3
    Patients not admitted to theatre, or who do not undergo their scheduled procedure due to failure to follow preparation instructions, may be subject to a 100% cancellation fee.

18Cancellation of Lists

  1. 18.1
    Where scheduled cases or theatre lists are cancelled, the Consultant is liable for cancellation charges according to the notice period provided:

  2. 18.2
    Where a patient cancels or fails to attend on the day of surgery, the full hospital fee will be charged.

19Review & Amendment

  1. 19.1
    The Hospital reserves the right to review and amend the Fee Schedule and these Terms & Conditions at any time.
  2. 19.2
    Any amendments will be provided in writing to the Consultant at least thirty (30) days prior to their effective date.
  3. 19.3
    Amendments take effect once details have been provided.
